1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition is a grassroots advocacy organization of dedicated volunteers who are working to keep the concerns about the breast cancer epidemic in the forefront. We are committed to promoting action towards finding causes and cures, with the eradication of breast cancer as our ultimate mission.
It is our mission to promote awareness of the breast cancer epidemic through education, outreach, advocacy, and direct support of research, which is being done to find the causes of, and cures for breast cancer and other related cancers. Since a high majority of breast cancer incidence falls outside the known risk categories, we are unique in looking at environmental factors as possible causes and in seeking and promoting ways to keep the environment healthy.
In pursuit of our goals, we are committed to reaching the end of this road and ensuring that future generations have a safer place to live. We pledge to expand and continue those projects that will result in the elimination of the breast cancer epidemic in our lifetime.
Perfect Wedding Planner & 1 in 9
Hope, Support, Empowerment and Love are comfortably nestled in the quaint home of the Hewlett House. Open to individuals with cancer and their families this house is available without referral and at no cost. Perfect Wedding Planner has recently had the pleasure of becoming proud sponsors of the 1 in 9 breast cancer coalition which is the organization that the Hewlett House is home to.
The Hewlett home was built by descendants of George Hewlett circa 1740, and its architectural background only adds to its significance. The home rests where it was originally built and is one of the few original Dutch colonials left on Long Island. When you look at this house you can feel the warmth that it contains and after you enter that warmth becomes stronger as you are overwhelmed by the love that you know has been shared between groups of men and women. The house is open daily for classes and workshops that range from pottery to yoga. It also contains a resource and outreach center for those seeking information and in need of support.
The Women who work here give their time daily to be the angels of this house and make it their mission to promote awareness of breast cancer. In 1990 women of Long Island had a 1 in 9 chance of getting this disease and that is how the organization found its name. Perfect Wedding Planner fully supports 1 in 9 and believes in their cause, as women we understand how serious raising awareness of breast cancer is and we encourage all of our brides to check themselves routinely!! Perfect Wedding Planner’s Honorable Breakfast
On Saturday, May 8, 2010, Perfect Wedding Planner attended a breakfast at the Lord and Taylor of Manhasset as honorees of the Hewlett House: 1 in 9 Breast Cancer Coalition. The breakfast was absolutely delightful and the perfect celebration of women. Perfect Wedding Planner is truly humbled to have been honored by Gerri Barish, President of 1 in 9, and presented with a Symbol of Hope certificate. We were also honored by the Supervisor of the town of Hempstead, Supervisor Katie Murray, with a Certificate of Recognition. It was a special moment for our team and what made it even more moving was having the love and support of our families there on that day. In what we feel has been a short amount of time, our relationship with the Hewlett House makes us feel like we have always been a part of their home.
At the breakfast, Gerri informed us that because of Perfect Wedding Planner, Scotto Brothers, our vendors and our brides, the wig room at the Hewlett House has been replenished. It brought tears to our eyes to know that because of a little bit of compassion and a collection of small donations, our showcases are helping women feel beautiful again. Giving any woman a chance to have a little bit of normalcy in their life during such a difficult time is a gift to this team. We are excited now more than ever to strengthen our support of the Hewlett House and be proud volunteers of any of their events. The ladies of PWP would like to thank all of our brides, vendors and the Scotto Brothers family because without their generous donations, we would not be able to give Hewlett House the support they deserve.

2010 "I Will Survive Dance"!
October 7, 2010 is a date that will forever have a special place in the hearts of Scotto Brothers and Perfect Wedding Planner. Not only did we host the 2010 I Will Survive Dance at The Chateau, but on that night we were honored and inducted into the 1 in 9: Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition’s Hall of Fame. The "I Will Survive Dance" is a night filled with the magic for survivors of breast cancer and their families. There is nothing more inspiring then watching women and men come together and rejoice for their survival. As Perfect Wedding Planner’s, Nicole Versaggi and Scotto Brothers Chief Financial Officer, Joe DiRico accepted the award on behalf of the Corporation from 1 in 9′s Gerry Barish, the rest of the PWP team watched with tearful eyes and applauded Scotto Brothers and even themselves for being active in making Long Island a better place for women and men. As we learn from and work with this organization; we grow as a team and become more aware of this disease as well as what it means to be taking a stand to fight breast cancer and one day find a cure!
